New Balance has been associated with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® series since 1989, and has been a National Series sponsor since 1991. As a National Series sponsor, New Balance partners with retailers and individual race organizations across the country to promote awareness at the local level. The Komen foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36.
Running Toward a Common GoalIn 1983, the first Komen Race for the Cure® was held in Dallas, Texas with 800 participants. Today, The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world with well over 1 million participants since 2005.
