New Balance & Susan Komen Foundation


New Balance has been associated with the
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® series since 1989, and has been a National Series sponsor since 1991. As a National Series sponsor, New Balance partners with retailers and individual race organizations across the country to promote awareness at the local level. The Komen foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36.
















Running Toward a Common Goal


In 1983, the first Komen Race for the Cure® was held in Dallas, Texas with 800 participants. Today, The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world with well over 1 million participants since 2005.

New Balance has created a collection of high-quality performance footwear, apparel and accessories that all feature a pink ribbon, the universal symbol of breast cancer awarenes.


From now through November 30th, when a consumer purchases a pair of shoes from the New Balance Race up for the cure collection, the company will donate $5.00 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation up to $50,000. The 2003 New Balance race up for the cure collection includes nine athletic shoes from the running , walking and cross-training categories. The collection is also distinguished by pink ribbon tissue paper in each shoebox and a hang-tag that explains the symbol′s significance and the compnay′s fourteen-year relationship wiht the Komen Foundation.
